Monterey Amberjacks Hold Off Vallejo Seaweed 9-8

June 13 2023 The Monterey Amberjacks held off the Vallejo Seaweed 9-8 after a late rally by Vallejo. Monterey scored twice in the first inning and added three runs in the fourth to take a 5-2 lead through five innings. The Amberjacks then scored four times in the seventh, which proved to be the difference in the one-run game.

Vallejo answered with three runs in the seventh and three more in the eighth, but Monterey kept the Seaweed scoreless in the ninth to secure the victory. Monterey finished with 10 hits and three errors, while Vallejo also collected 10 hits and committed three errors.

Robert Malone led Monterey with three hits, two runs and one RBI. Adrian Garcia also had three hits and scored once, while Tristan Cavazos contributed a home run, three RBI and one run. Anthony Ward scored twice and drove in one run, and Matt Palmer added a pinch-hit RBI. Vallejos Mickey Nunes went 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs, while Sean Jackson went 2-for-4 and scored twice.

Daniel Benavidez earned the win for Monterey after allowing four hits and two runs, one earned, in six innings with four strikeouts and two walks. Dominic Scotti recorded the save with a scoreless ninth. David Gustatson took the loss for Vallejo, surrendering seven hits and five earned runs in four innings.
