Monterey Uses Big Fourth Inning to Defeat Vallejo

June 29 2023 The Monterey Amberjacks defeated the Vallejo Seaweed 15-7, overcoming an early deficit with a five-run fourth inning and pulling away late. Monterey outhit Vallejo 17-6 and played error-free baseball, while Vallejo committed two errors.

Vallejo led 5-2 after two innings, but Monterey scored five runs in the fourth to take control. The Amberjacks added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings, two in the eighth and four in the ninth. Vallejo’s only additional scoring came on a two-run seventh inning.

Anthony Williams led Monterey’s offensive attack with three hits and five RBI. Gabriel Murillo added two hits and three RBI, while Adrian Garcia scored three runs with two hits and an RBI. Robert Malone went 3-for-5 with three runs scored, and Anthony Ward reached base five times with two hits and three walks. Monterey’s 17-hit performance included four doubles from Malone three from Murillo and one from Kyler Rinehart.

Nick Samudio earned the win after allowing two runs on two hits over five innings with three walks and four strikeouts. Daniel Benavidez surrendered five runs, four earned, in two innings, while Emmanuel Benavidez closed with two scoreless innings and three strikeouts for the save. Kyle Kotecki took the loss for Vallejo after giving up 10 hits and nine runs in 5.1 innings.
