Train Robbers Power Past Seaweed 16-8

July 1 2023 The Bakersfield Train Robbers defeated the Vallejo Seaweed 16-8 after breaking open a close game with seven runs in the seventh inning and five more in the ninth. Bakersfield finished with 10 hits and one error while Vallejo collected 12 hits without committing an error.

Seth Strong drove in four runs for Bakersfield and went 2-for-5. Tevin Brown added three hits, including two triples, with two runs and one RBI, while Rick Phillips doubled twice, scored three runs and drove in one. Paul Von Zboray had three RBI, and Tom Buckman supplied a three-run home run as part of the Train Robbers’ late offensive surge.

Vallejo received three hits from Braxton King and Mickey Nunes. Sean Jackson went 2-for-3 with a home run, three runs and one RBI, while Nunes scored twice and added one RBI. The Seaweed scored in five different innings, but Bakersfield’s seven-run seventh turned a 9-8 game into a 16-8 lead before the final inning.

Cameron Isbell earned the win for Bakersfield after allowing 10 hits and seven runs, six earned, in six innings. He walked six and struck out three. Max Tracey, Paul Von Zboray and James Reilly combined for three innings of relief. Jalen Ford took the loss for Vallejo, surrendering 11 runs on eight hits with eight walks and four strikeouts in seven innings, while Kevin Consolazio allowed five runs in two innings.
