Drakes Use Five Run Second to Defeat Seaweed 9-3

June 3 2024 The Marysville Drakes defeated the Vallejo Seaweed 9-3 after scoring five runs in the second inning and adding two runs in the fifth. Marysville also scored in the sixth and eighth innings, while Vallejo’s offense produced one run in the sixth and two in the seventh. The Drakes finished with 13 hits, compared with five for the Seaweed.

Joe Starick led Marysville by going 3-for-4 with two runs and three RBI. Drake Ayala added three hits and two RBI, while Jumpei Ohashi went 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs. Chris Cook and John Smith each collected two hits, and the Drakes hit three home runs, two by Starick and one by Ohashi.

Earl Johnson earned the win for Marysville, allowing three hits and one unearned run over six innings while striking out seven and walking one. Tim Nichols was charged with two runs in two-thirds of an inning, and Dillon Stimpson completed the game with one hitless inning. Vallejo starter Christian Zellner went the distance but allowed 13 hits and nine runs, eight earned, with three strikeouts and two walks.
